Cairns Bat Festival 2022

The Cairns Bat Festival is back, 5 June at Wharf One Cafe, Cairns city (on Trinity Wharf) from 5pm till 8pm. We’re celebrating bats and World Environment Day as a satellite event of EcoFiesta Cairns . Delve into the mysterious world of bats on our bat detection walk. Get the true Bat Facts and bust those bat myths. Watch endangered spectacled flying-foxes fly over Trinity Inlet. Learn how you can help conserve this flying-fox by recording your sightings in the Save Our Spectacled Flying-fox Watch project. Find out about our other citizen science bat monitoring projects. Enjoy live music by the festival band featuring local musician Toshi Sakomoto and our own batwoman Sera Steves. Listen to inspiring presentations by artists and scientists including Dr Tessa Laird, author of the book “Bat” and Kathy Holowko, creator of Batmania and Wild City exhibitions. There’s face painting, glitter bat tattoos, a visit by giant bats on stilts, ‘bat’ shopping and a raffle with prizes that get you closer to the wonderful world heritage nature of our wet tropics region. All funds raised assist bat care. Dress up as a bat and join the Bat Parade. Prizes for best bat costume. To get you in the mood visit us at EcoFiesta on May 29 and discover the Flying-fox Cocktail (and mocktail) trail – various venues in Cairns and Kuranda from mid May and thank bats for the ingredients of your drink and Don’t forget those bat costumes!
